The Brooklyn Manila Project Comes to Virginia Beach

This dynamic inter-disciplinary show celebrates the Filipino spirit. Originally commissioned by New York City’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, this family-friendly program carries the audience to the Philippines on a journey through history from tribal to modern times using music, dance, martial arts, and video. Informed by an unparalleled six-year collaboration between revered cultural chieftains of the Talaandig people of the Philippines, and award-winning Filipino and Grammy-nominated American artists, this performance aims to illuminate and explore the space between tradition and modern life across two inter-connected countries. Virginia Beach has a very special bond with the Philippines via its sister city of Olongapo and its long history as a home to a large Filipino population. This program is customized especially for Virginia featuring collaborations with local youth celebrating the connection between our communities though they are oceans apart. The Philippine Cultural Center of Virginia (PCC) is proud to partner with the Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs and the Sandler Center in this collaborative effort. The PCC youth programs featured in the show include the Philippine Rondalla Ensemble of Virginia, the School for Creative & Performing Arts, and the Kuntaw martial arts group.
